Property taxes were a primary focus of the Nebraska Legislature’s recently completed session, but with no consensus emerging on how to fund property tax reductions, senators are expected to return to Lincoln for a special session later this year.
In an op-ed, OpenSky Executive Director Rebecca Firestone wrote that finding agreement on specific revenue-raising mechanisms to address property taxes will take time and input, but if lawmakers can continue with a thoughtful and deliberate approach surrounding taxes, Nebraskans can be optimistic that solutions will emerge to address the issue comprehensively.
