The Nebraska Secretary of State’s Office is reviewing a request from a state lawmaker to remove a voter referendum from the November ballot that could repeal a bill she proposed.

State Sen. Lou Ann Linehan of the Omaha area sent the letter to the office on Monday, alleging that the referendum violates the Nebraska Constitution. Organizers of the referendum pushed back against her claim, noting that the secretary of state already validated that the initiative met all constitutional and statutory requirements when the petition was certified.
