Omaha World-Herald on Dec. 12: Renee Fry: Meet budget challenges responsibly
It’s troubling that some want to address Nebraska’s budget shortfall strictly through budget cuts. Or that some suggest that a Taxpayer Bill of Rights would prevent future budget shortfalls, when in reality it’s a policy that created a recession in Colorado, prompting 29 other states to reject it.
These sentiments ignore the fact that our state lawmakers are still working to repair serious damage caused by prior budget cuts and that Nebraska voters have twice rejected a Taxpayer Bill of Rights because of the harm this rigid and arbitrary spending formula would cause.
