For seven years in the Legislature, Tom Briese helped shape Nebraska’s tax debate, often steering the property tax portions of the proposals with State Sen. Lou Ann Linehan of Omaha and Govs. Pete Ricketts and later Jim Pillen.

Now Briese, who was appointed state treasurer last year by Pillen, says it is hard to watch from the sidelines as Linehan and Pillen face flak for carrying proposals he long championed that would shift more of the local property tax burden onto the state sales tax.
