As Nebraskans, we have many reasons to be proud of our K-12 education system.
Our students consistently score above the national average on college entrance tests, we have one of the highest high school graduation rates in the nation, and we justifiably view public education funding as a long-term investment in the state’s future.
However, Nebraska has become increasingly reliant on property taxes to fund K-12 education. We now rely more on local revenue sources such as property taxes to fund schools than every other state in the country.
