Dear Friend,
If you’ve ever visited our office, you may have seen the framed hard-copy version of the Lincoln Journal Star Editorial from March 22, 2012 (pictured below). The article starts as such:
An informed new voice is being heard in discussion about public policy in Nebraska.
The Open Sky Policy Institute recently jumped into the debate over tax cuts proposed by Gov. Dave Heineman and championed in the Legislature by Sen. Abbie Cornett of Bellevue.
Renee Fry, executive director of the new think tank based in Lincoln, told the Journal Star editorial board the institute had planned to sit out this session, but it decided the long-term implications of the tax cut were too significant to ignore.
And so began OpenSky’s public-facing effort to affect state policy debates in a way that improves opportunities for every Nebraskan. (You can read the full article here or stop by our office sometime to read the hard copy!)
More than 10 years and countless media stories later, OpenSky is a key resource for lawmakers, journalists and others who follow our vital fiscal policy discussions, thanks to our amazing supporters.
You can help ensure OpenSky continues to serve this vital role by donating to OpenSky as part of the Give to Lincoln Day campaign, which is running now through May 26.
Your gift will maximize your support of OpenSky’s mission by allowing us to receive a proportional share of a $500,000 match fund provided by the Lincoln Community Foundation and other sponsors.
We hope you will support OpenSky with a Give to Lincoln Day donation to help us celebrate our first decade and help us continue to be a key voice in fiscal matters for years to come.
Thank you,
The OpenSky team
