Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen approved LB243, or the School District Property Tax Limitation Act, on May 31st, 2023. It is effective for the upcoming school year.

Nebraska has historically struggled to fund its education. According to the 2019 Annual Survey of School System Finances conducted by the U.S Census Bureau, Nebraska ranked 49th in the nation in regards to how much money the state provided for school funding-and second place in use of local resources: taxpayers’ money.
