RSVP today for OpenSky’s Policy Institute’s 2022 Fall Policy Symposium. Join us to network with Nebraska’s key thinkers and policy leaders and gain insight into major policy issues before the next legislative session!

The event – which is back in person for the first time since 2019 – will be held Thursday, Sept. 22 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Nebraska Innovation Campus, 2021 Transformation Drive in Lincoln. Check-in starts at 8 a.m.

Registration is $25 but free for elected officials, legislative staff, OpenSky donors and members of the media. Scholarships also are available to help offset event fees. Contact ospi.info@openskypolicy.org with scholarship questions.

The symposium will feature a presentation by Dr. Bruce Baker, Professor and Chair of the Department of Teaching and Learning at the University of Miami, and a leading national expert on state school finance systems and educational equity.

Dr. Baker is co-creator of the School Finance Indicators Database and author of two recent books, “Educational Inequality and School Finance: Why Money Matters for America’s Students,” and “School Finance and Education Equity: Lessons from Kansas.” He has advised numerous state legislatures and testified across the country regarding equity and adequacy of public school funding.

The symposium also will feature:

  • A discussion about Inflation and its implications for Nebraska with Dr. Eric Thompson of the University of Nebraska Bureau of Business Research; and
  • A panel discussion on innovative responses to the pandemic from across Nebraska. Learn from community leaders in education, behavioral health, and economic development about their creative solutions and how they can inform future policy choices for the state.
