Latest Issue Brief focuses on Nebraska’s business taxes
Since 1987, Nebraska has made several changes to its tax code in an effort to be more business-friendly. As a result of these efforts, the state now offers many tax breaks to businesses. But there are questions about whether these measures attract new jobs and economic activity to our state. There also is concern about the growing cost of these tax incentives, particularly at a time when state revenues are failing to keep up with demands for services like education, health care and public safety.
In OpenSky’s latest Issue Brief, we examine how Nebraska taxes businesses as well as some of the questions and concerns that surround this part of our tax code.
OpenSky’s issue briefs focus on fiscal policy proposals and issues that face the Legislature nearly every year. The briefs take a close look at these issues in an effort to educate lawmakers, candidates, media members and others about these recurring issues and policy proposals. The briefs also contain policy recommendations from OpenSky. Along with our business tax brief, we also have pieces on:
- Income tax cuts;
- Social Security taxation;
- Convention of States proposals;
- Private school scholarship tax credits; and
- Revenue stabilization and broadening the tax base.
Another Issue Brief on property taxes in Nebraska will be released this fall.
