NPR series examines K-12 finance in America
In recent months, National Public Radio has released a series of stories and other items as part of a project titled, “School Money – The Cost of Opportunity.”
The project is “a nationwide collaboration between NPR’s Ed Team and 20 member station reporters exploring how states pay for their public schools and why many are failing to meet the needs of their most vulnerable students.”
The project has focused on a variety of school funding issues including:
- Inequity in school finance;
- The role money plays in educational outcomes; and
- Whether there are better ways to fund schools in America.
The project also features stories from several states examining school finance issues such as educating students in poverty, school finance lawsuits, segregation in America’s schools and the issues that come from relying on property taxes to fund education. Visit the School Money homepage to see all the stories from the project.
