Two additional hearings will be held Oct. 7 and Oct. 8. Details of these hearings will be made available when the times and sites have been confirmed.
In its study, the Education Committee is looking at the financing and delivery of education funding in Nebraska. The Education Committee is coordinating its interim study with the study being conducted by the Tax Modernization Committee.
OpenSky had the opportunity to present to Education Committee on Aug. 2. Our research indicates that the current funding system has not:
- Reduced reliance on property taxes to pay for K-12 education;
- Provided a sustainable revenue source other than property taxes to keep pace with the increasing costs of operating the public school system; and
- Assured a greater level of equality of educational opportunities for students in all public school districts.
