Nebraska lawmakers will have an extra $40 million to work with in the state budget next session, according to new projections shared Monday.

Members of the state’s Tax Rate Review Committee learned that the latest estimates show the ending balance of the general fund at the end of fiscal year 2024-25 will be roughly $379 million, up from $339 million projected in July.

The committee meets twice a year to learn about changes in projections that could affect Nebraska’s biennial budget, which covers fiscal years 2023-24 and 2024-25. Lawmakers established the budget earlier this year, but they can still make changes to it during the 2024 session.
