May is finally here, which means we are kicking off our annual Give to Lincoln campaign!
Over the next month, you will hear about the crucial work we have been doing at OpenSky to create equal opportunities for all Nebraskans — and we have been busy! This legislative session, our team worked tirelessly to:
- Bring insight to the policy debate on reducing property taxes by 40% through an increase in sales taxes. The unique analysis that only OpenSky could offer showed that the 20% of Nebraskans with incomes under $30,000 would have seen a tax increase.
- Support greater transparency in the state’s Medicaid and TANF programs.
And our legislative work is not over. Gov. Pillen has committed to calling a legislative special session later this year on property taxes.

We simply cannot continue this crucial work without support. In order to meet the moment and continue advancing evidence-based policies in our state, we’ve set a goal to raise $30,000 in this year’s Give to Lincoln campaign. Our goal is high, but the stakes are higher.
With legislators set to return later this year for the special session on property taxes, OpenSky will be working from now until the start of that session to weigh solutions that support a stronger Nebraska.
