Monday, Oct. 16, is your last chance to register for OpenSky’s Fall Policy Symposium featuring discussions of key issues ahead of the next legislative session.
Register now to join us on Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Nebraska Innovation Campus in Lincoln. Check-in starts at 8 a.m., with the program beginning at 8:30.
Professor Timothy J. Nelson of Princeton University will open the Symposium with a keynote presentation of Injustices and opportunities of place: policies to further the Good Life for all.
Nelson will discuss cutting-edge research used to map the extent of deep socio-economic disadvantage at the county level and share thoughts on why the region of the United States with the greatest degree of socio-economic advantage was the Upper Midwest, including Nebraska.
A series of panel discussions will follow the keynote presentation:
- 9:45 a.m.: Assessing Nebraska’s property tax: opportunities and solutions
- 10:45 a.m.: What do state and county fines and fees tell us about equity and sustainability in Nebraska’s revenue systems?
- 11:45 a.m.: Engaging new Americans in solving Nebraska’s workforce challenges
Following the event, Nelson will sign copies of his new book, The Injustice of Place: Uncovering the Legacy of Poverty in America.
Tickets are $25 (free for senators, legislative staff and the media), and scholarships are available. Contact Luke Sutton at lsutton@openskypolicy.org or 402-438-0382 for more information.
