Newly available census data provides a glimpse into the diversity among Nebraska’s 49 legislative districts.
OpenSky compiled the data and has produced fact sheets for the 49 districts and the state as a whole. Each profile includes information on income, housing, race and ethnicity, educational attainment and other demographics.
An interactive map feature focuses on income levels by legislative district, showing the concentration of higher incomes in eastern Nebraska and the disparity in incomes among districts in the metro areas.
Which district has the highest household median income? District 39, represented by Sen. Lou Ann Linehan, in western Douglas County.
The district with the highest percentage of residents making rent payments? Sen. Danielle Conrad’s District 46 in north Lincoln.
The highest percentage of residents with a graduate or professional degree live in newly appointed Sen. Carolyn Bosn’s District 25 in Lancaster County.
And the district with the highest percentage of filers claiming a federal child tax credit is District 36, represented by Sen. Rick Holdcroft, including Gretna, Springfield and parts of Sarpy County.
Among districts in central and western Nebraska, the highest median home values are in District 37 represented by Kearney Sen. John Lowe. The district west of the U.S. 81 corridor with the highest percentage of homeowners is Sen. Dave Murman’s District 38.
The data is the latest available for the legislative districts redrawn following the 2020 census. Senators in the current legislative session are considering a number of proposals to provide personal and individual income tax cuts and extend property tax reductions.
