Join the OpenSky team for a Feb. 8 OpenSky webinar exploring the potential policy impacts of a state child tax credit like that proposed in LB 294.
The webinar – which starts at 12:15 p.m. – will feature a discussion with OpenSky staff and:
- Megan Curran, Policy Director at the Columbia University Center on Poverty and Social Policy;
- Aidan Davis, State Policy Director at the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy; and
- Rose Bender, Director of Research at the Montana Budget and Policy Center.
New evidence on child tax credits at the federal level has spurred momentum within several states to develop similar mechanisms. This discussion will touch on recent policy analyses on how to design such measures and consider a Montana child tax credit plan within Governor Greg Gianforte’s budget proposal as well as Nebraska’s LB 294, which would provide Nebraska families that fall within certain income levels a refundable tax credit for each child up to $1,000. OpenSky analysis shows about half of all Nebraskans, including about 81% of our state’s children, would benefit under LB 294.
